Hello! My name is Marvin Hawkins, a hobby game developer from Chicago. Everyone who wants to make games probably faced that moment of truth. The moment that you decide to stop enjoying them as a consumer and want to actually create them. I’m sure that sounds like one of those TV art school commercials, but its true. Mine was at a very early age. I was playing Super Mario Brothers 3, and decided I want to do this. As a 5 year old child I was not sure what ‘it’ was. Not knowing how games were made, I spent much of my youth making little board games out of shoe boxes. I would also spend whole saturdays creating concepts for games, drawing levels, etc. My parents were slightly terrified. ‘People don’t get paid for making games’ The older I got, the more that I understood that games weremade by people. In high school, I learned how to program in visual basic, and started tinkering with level design tools. I knew that I was hooked.
I spent my college years at the Illinois Institute of Art getting my BFA in Game Art and Design. Art in games is stunning, but my true passion is Game Design and Programming. This web site is designed to capture all of my game development projects, and the learning that comes out of it. I sincerely hope that my mistakes/findings can help others.
I love games, sports, books, and art. I love the feeling that you get when someone is enjoying your creation. The only other feeling that is better than creation is seeing someone play your work. Any questions, just ask.
